Abstract
In this study, we sought to understand how ICT is being used in scientific gifted students¡¯ inquiry
activities based on the recognition that scientific inquiry should also change in line with the educational
environment that changes with the computer-based Internet environment. For the purpose of this study, ICT
utilization was analyzed as shown in the scientific inquiry report of gifted in science students who belong
to and education institute for the gifted science affiliated to the university. In the course of the study, ICT
utilization was analyzed in 95 scientific inquiry reports submitted by gifted students in science in three
courses: information gathering process, inquiry performance process, analysis and data clean up process.
Looking at the main research results, (1) Gifted students in science used various sources of information using
the Internet in the information gathering process, but many used only one source of information. The number
of students who gather information through ¡®Internet encyclopedias¡¯ was the largest. (2) In the inquiry
performance process, it has been shown that the application of smart devices or the inquiry using coding
is being used only in some probes. (3) In the analysis and data clean up process, the students wrote a inquiry
report and tabulated the results of the experiment using a word processor. However, the number of students
who graph the results using word processor is not enough. In addition, it has been shown that only some
inquiry uses spreadsheets to perform statistical processing. Based on the results of this study, the current
address of how ICT is being used in the inquiry of gifted students in science will be identified, and the
current ICT aptitude for scientific inquiry will contribute to the use of ICT for general students as well.
