Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the trends of students¡¯ preferred themes through the
analysis of the open inquiry activities theme, and find out what role teachers should play in the exploratory
phase for students¡¯ successful inquiry activities. For this study, scientific research notes submitted by
scientifically gifted elementary school students were investigated. The theme selected by the students were
analyzed based on type, the purpose of exploration, and the suitability of open inquiry activity.
